About The Event

Event Details

Come along with us to visit lower Michigan's Manistee National Forst. We will arrive Thursday July 29 and camp at Seaton Creek Campground. Friday morning you and your guide will be dropped off at the "top" of the Manistee River where you will begin your kayak/camp trip. The Manistee river is long and winding, taking numerous S curves as it makes its way south. Toward the end of the day we will be camping along the river.

Saturday morning we will pack up from our riverside camp and finish our kakak tour after taking out at Red Bridge. Once our kayak gear is packed up and put away we being the second part of this adventure as we start hiking north along the Manistee River Trail (MRT). This trail is 11 miles (not including a 2 mile spur to the campground) in length and prodominatley follows the Manistee River and offfers view after view of the river. We will camp along the MRT.

Sunday morning we will finish hiking the MRT, pack up and head home. Total backpacking miles will be approximately 13 with more than half of those being completed on Saturday, leaveing less than -54 miles to hike on Saturday. 

July 29-Depart the Chicagoland area. Group camp at Seatonn Creek Campground.

July 30-Drop off at upper Manistee River, camp along the Manistee River.

July 31-Complete kayak route, exiting at Red Bridge and begin the days hike, camping along the Manistee River Trail. Approximate length of hike 7-8 miles.

August 1-Complete the remained of the hike, exiting at Seaton Creek Campground. Approximate length of hike will be 4-6 miles. Depart for the Chicagoland area.

Cost

Total ticket price is $275 and includes:Round trip transportation for you and your kayak to the event location.

Gear Rental price is $175 and includes the following:

-Backpack

-Sleeping bag

-Sleeping pad

-Pillow stuff sack

-1 or 2 person tent

-water purifier

-Stove/Fuel canister

-Headlamp

-Trekking poles

-Trowel

-Dry bag for food storage

Kayak Rental Price is $125 and includes:

  • 9-10' kayak
  • 10 L dry bag
  • Paddle
  • Life jacket

Participants are expected to bring all meals and equipment for this trip (a detailed list will be provided). Gear rental is available at an additional charge. If you’d like to fish, you may obtain a permit and equipment on location.

Safety

All True North Expeditions staff are certified in First Aid/CPR and every one of our events is lead by a guide with a background in emergency medicine and a certified Wilderness First Aid instructor. Guides are experienced in wilderness and outdoor travel and are equipped with GPS and satellite phones during every portion of this event.

Cancellation Policy

No refunds will be issued for cancellations or no shows. We will not be able to provide a credit toward a future event if you are not able to attend after registering.

    Admission is for 1 person. Client must obtain their own camping gear. Ticket price includes transportation, permit fees, transportation for personal kayak to Michigan (if you bring your own), and group camp site at Seaton Creek Campground the first night. We will contact you with a list of required gear prior to the start of the trip.
